Head Drawing: A Primer for Portraiture
Tonal Portrait Drawing is based on academic principals. We will begin with basics, such as: Drafting Geometry, Shadows in Perspectives, and Constructive Drawing. Students will learn how to find Tonal Solution of the composition how to balance Negative/Positive space, with editing. Discussion of techniques will also be included. A short demonstration will be given each class session. Limit 8 students per class each student will receive lots of attention, beginning drawing classes are suggested. Weekly Syllabus
• WEEK 1 – learning the basics of proportional head drawing eyes, ears nose mouths, hair etc.
• WEEK 2- Proportional head Drawing by age and ethnicity.
• WEEK 3 – Pastel drawing from the portrait photographs; how to choose paper, palette, stroke application, interpret light, etc.
• WEEK 4- Finish portrait drawing from last week. Discussion of combining pastel with other media in preparation for next week.
Supply List Drawing:
• Charcoal vine or compressed charcoal pastel
• Charcoal pencil: B, 2B, 3B 6B
• Graphite pencils: HB, B, 2B, 3B
• Kneaded eraser
• Sketch paper 18″x24″ or 16″x20″
• Drawing board
• Newsprint Pad
