What you’ll learn in this
watercolor class:
This transparent water-based painting medium has
been enjoyed and used for centuries. Regardless of
your experience level, you will learn how to use materials
and all the techniques associated with watercolor.
You will see demonstrations, and we will discuss composition,
design, subject matter, and textures that lend
themselves to this
medium.
You will leave this course with knowledge of how
to use materials such as brushes, papers, and paint-towater
ratio. Focus will be given to inventing the medium
for yourself by learning to gain the right amount of
control for your style.
We will explore different washes: wet on wet, wet on
dry, dry on dry painting, in order to help you understand
how to make different textures while learning to control
the uncontrollable: water!
Important Things to Note:
•We will go over color theory and mix colors from the
primaries while learning to address highlights
and shadows by working without white paint.
•Projects within the course will focus on painting from
observation.
•It is beneficial to build a strong foundation in an observational
practice in order to understand composition
and design, negative space, color
changes from cool to warm, and using contrast
and layers to build a believable 3-dimensional
space on the paper.

and comfortable atmosphere.

and/or oils you can learn to

JOIN US for Design ideas using
shapes and patterns.
We will use a variety of papers,
exploring color; use view finders
and stencils; use cutting, tearing
and layering to explore different
effects; look at composition, proportion
and pattern. This workshop
uses of dyes and exacto/craft
knives for cutting.

This is good class to explore to design and color.
This workshop is particularly
suitable for craft, fine art and textiles
or individuals that want to
explore different techniques and a
process led way of generating new
ideas.

Head drawing and portraits November 1st-22nd Tuesday afternoons 4:30 pm – 6:30 pm
Pencil and pastels Learn the foundations for head drawing and working on a portrait. Each students will do a self portrait or portraits from a photograph. the course will cover the beginning drawing techniques and learn to capture character. $60.00 Plus materials Fee of $20.00 or bring your own materials.

Color pallettes will be discussed and studied that include Watercolor, Acrylic and pastel painting pallets. Members will produce a painting in each medium or the Medium of their choice, working with different pallets with the same picture. Warm & Cool, High and Low Key, tonal work, landscape vs. Portraits and Still life will be used. Picking the right palette for your painting is important.

From Theory to Practice
There’s a lot of Color theory to know but when it comes to choosing colors, understanding the theory behind color can do wonders for how you actually use color. this class is designed to give you a few extra tips for choosing colors:

Know the Difference in your color palettes for the appropriate picture you are doing..
Start with one color you like, with one color and build the color scheme from there. If you try and start with more than one color, you’ll have a harder time finding harmony between your colors. Save your color schemes.Practice makes perfect. The more you play with color and practice design, the better you get. No one creates their masterpiece the first time around.

Wildlife Watercolor and Acrylic Classes In September
Please call the North Valley Senior Center to enroll in watercolor and acrylic classes. If you have taken the class before come and join to keep up your skills! If you have no experience please enroll and we will work with you to show you techniques in watercolor painting. We will do a Watercolor and an acrylic painting, the 3rd Class you will choose your medium and your image. Come have fun!

Learning to paint Wildlife is a fullfulling beautiful art form that provides a wonderful starting point for beginning artist. Children will learn how to draw and paint a variety wildlife. Any drawing that the student do in the previous class will help them start their paintings for this class. Children with practice basic drawing techniques, how to drawing and painting from photographs and learn how to paint with acrylics.

Pencil Drawing is beautiful art Form that provides a wonderful starting point for beginning artist. Pencil is a forgiving medium and the precision and control that pencil allows an make it an ideal for creating intricate textures and fascinating features of a variety of wildlife. Children with practicing basic drawing techniques, how to drawing from photographs and drawing animals in action.

Toon Time: Born to Draw Drawing Program (ages 7-11) At University of New Mexico Continuing Education

While having fun drawing cartoon characters, students will be introduced to the formal elements of drawing, including line, shape, placement, angles, textures, value, color and perspective. Note: Materials will be provided. Register online at the UNM Link
